Tracking Point Groups

Sort markers into named groups, one set per tracking object.

Movie Clip Editor sidebar, Dope Track tab, under Track. Needs a clip loaded. It's the first of the four panels there.

A shot with two hundred markers is hard to work with. Groups let you name sets of them and then select, hide or lock a whole set at once.

Tracking object

At the top, a picker showing the current tracking object. Click it to switch.

Groups belong to the tracking object, not the clip. Switching objects gives you that object's groups, so a camera solve and an object solve keep their markers apart.

The group list

Each row is one group, and the icon on the left says where it came from:

IconMeaning
TrackerCreated by a node that still exists
UnlinkedCreated by a node that has since been deleted
GroupYou made it by hand

The name is editable in place. On the right of each row are three toggles: select the group's markers, hide them, and lock them.

The buttons beside the list add and remove groups. With no groups yet, the panel shows Add First Group instead.

Auto-Add New Tracks

A toggle. With it on, markers you create afterwards join whichever group is active, and the panel spells out which group that is. Markers that already belong to a group are left where they are, so the tracker nodes keep managing their own groups.

This is the same setting as the one in Preferences. Changing it here changes it everywhere, and it persists between files.

The rest of the buttons

ButtonWhat it does
Add Selected to GroupPuts your selected markers in the active group
Remove Selected from GroupTakes them out again
Rename Group TracksRenames the markers in the group so their names match it
Cleanup TracksBlender's track cleanup, run on this group

Orphaned tracks

Now and then a box appears saying some tracks were left behind by old removals, with a button to purge them. It only shows when there is actually something to clean, so most files never see it. These are leftovers from removals Blender wouldn't let the add-on finish, and purging them is safe.
