Convert Footage

Turn video into frames, or transcode a sequence, with optional crop and resize.

Writes an image sequence to disk. Either extracting frames from a video, or converting an existing sequence to a different format or size.

Inputs

Two, and connecting one hides the other:

There's no output socket. Press Import as Footage and you get a new Footage node pointing at what was written, so everything downstream reads the real files.

Format

PNG is lossless and the safe default. JPEG is smaller and faster, with a quality slider. EXR is float, for when you need the range.

View Transform

Appears for sequence input when the output is not EXR. It decides how linear values become display values.

Option	Use it for

AgX	Matches Blender's default viewport
Filmic	Matches the older Filmic look

AgX and Filmic run the conversion through Blender's own color management, so what you get is exactly what the viewport shows.

Preserve Start Frame

Off by default, so output frames are renumbered from 1.

Turn it on to keep the source numbering. Some exports bake camera timecode into filenames, and a DaVinci render can start at frame 86400, which puts the imported clip far off the end of your timeline. Renumbering avoids that. Preserve it when a pipeline expects the original numbers.

Reformat

Optional, and applied while the frames are written.

Crop trims pixels off the edges with no resampling. Trim X and Trim Y are totals split evenly between opposite sides, so 10 off a 1920-wide frame leaves 1910, 5 from each side.

Resize scales to a target. Pixels for an exact size, Percentage to scale by a factor. Link holds the aspect ratio while you type.

Pixel Aspect bakes an anamorphic squeeze into the pixels, so the output is square-pixel.

With both crop and resize on, an Order control appears, since the two give different results depending which runs first. Each section shows its own before and after size.

These controls used to be a separate Reformat node, which has been retired. Old files still open, and the node shows a note saying so.
